Terre Haute German Oberlandler Club

Saturday, 05/11/24

That word, from the Terre Haute German Oberlandler Klub’s perspective, serves as a summary of our Klub’s origins and purpose. Our Klub was founded over 50 years ago by German immigrants, their American spouses and friends as a way to gather to enjoy Gemütlichkeit, that is, good-natured geniality, and friendship (Gemeinschaft). Our Mission Statement summarizes our goals and activities:

. . . celebrate our togetherness as German-Americans. This is accomplished by educating the community to our love of food, music, and language. The Klub is a place to come and have fun through dinners, dances, travel, scholarships, and festivals. The Klub is inclusive and for all peoples to come together and celebrate life.

Willkommen, also indicates our eagerness to share this heritage bequeathed to us. Germans love to gather around food and drink Bier (of course!) and have a good time talking, dancing, seeing friends and making new ones. We cordially invite you to browse our website and see what activities we have planned.

We also invite you to consider joining us as a member of our Klub. That inquiry can be made by contacting any member of the Board of Directors or by submitting a request for more information.

Frühlingsfest

The German American Club of Indianapolis will hold its 8th Annual Frühlingsfest Weekend on Friday, 04/26, and Saturday, 04/27, in German Park. Frühlingsfests (spring fests) are a unique experience of German culture and were brought to Indiana by our German immigrant ancestors in the mid/late 1800s. They were very common in Indiana until WW I. In 2017, the Indianapolis German American Klub resurrected this great tradition in Central Indiana with its own brand of German American Spring flavor. Click here for more information about this event.
