For over 50 years the Terre Haute German Oberlanderler Club has worked to preserve, promote, and celebrate the Wabash Valley’s strong German-American history, culture, and traditions. Membership is open to individuals of good character who have a genuine interest in helping us further our work.
The Club shares and promotes its heritage with the community through its Oktoberfest, by providing scholarships to local high school students working to develop their German language skills, and by sponsoring youth sports teams. It also supports a wide variety of community projects that help make the Wabash Valley a great place to live, work and play.
Annual Picnic Cancelled
Because of continued concerns about the health and safety of our members and their families during the current pandemic, the board of directors has decided to cancel this year’s annual picnic. The picnic was originally scheduled for August 8th.
48th Annual Oktoberfest Cancelled
On 07/22/2020, the Club’s board of directors and members made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Oktoberfest due to ongoing concerns about the spread of COVID-19. The annual festival, which has been sponsored by the Club for the past 47 years, was scheduled to be held at Meadows Center on September 18th and 19th.
Brad Cress, Oktoberfest Committee Chairperson, said: “The health and well-being of attendees, entertainers, partners, volunteers and Club members has been and continues to be our primary concern with this year’s festival. With the uptick in COVID-19 cases here in the Wabash Valley and the state, the Club’s board of directors and members felt cancelling this year’s ‘fest was the only responsible thing to do.”
We hope to host both Strassenfest next Spring and our 48th Annual Oktoberfest in September 2021.
