The Origin of Oktoberfest
The first Oktoberfest was held in Munich, Germany from October 12 until October 27 in the year 1810. It was a festival to celebrate Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. It ended with a horse race.
Why is the Oktoberfest in September?
Oktoberfest was moved to September for the simple reason of warmer weather. The evenings in October tended to be chilly and by moving the festival to early September the evenings were warmer and the festivities could continue later.
