Club History
The Terre Haute German Oberlandler Club (THGOC) was founded on November 16, 1967. On that day, a small group of men and women gathered at the Bierstube Restaurant in Terre Haute and held the organizational meeting of the Little Oberlanders Club, which was subsequently renamed THGOC when the Club incorporated as an Indiana non-profit in1969. Founding members included:
Hilde Crisp
Christa & Lee Phifer
Annamarie Schoffmann
Erwin & Marcella Kohlmorgen
Christ Price
John & Erika Strahla
Hilde & Glenn McHenry
Herman & Elizabeth Reiter
Fred Sutton
Helga Phillips
Mike & Barbara Schlapp
Margot Zmar
Nearly 57-years later, thanks to the wisdom and foresight of this small group of men and women, the Oberlandlers are still working to fulfill our mission to celebrate, promote and preserve the customs, traditions and ideals of our Bavarian and German culture in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley.
